Concrete Bridge Beams for the Rail Industry

Shay Murtagh Precast Ltd., design, manufacture and supply a range of elements suitable for railway infrastructure projects. We have a range of bridge beams and portal bridge units designed specifically with the rail industry in mind, making our systems less disruptive to install and more amenable to the short possession times imposed by Railway authorities.

Recent Project Experience

The old bridge structure which carried Andover Road over the railway line needed rebuilding to enable larger freight containers to be carried on the Railway. Upgrade works were carried out as part of the Southampton to Nuneaton freight upgrade scheme. Improvement works are being planned along this route to structures which are not currently large enough for high-cube containers to pass through.

Shay Murtagh Precast Ltd were selected by Main Contractor, Carillion Civil Engineering to supply precast portal frame units, cill beams and ground units. This heavily skewed bridge structure on a restricted site provided serious challenges for our design team.
