New Bridge beams and concrete deck slabs for Birse Rail’s Piano Overbridge

At the end of 2011 Shay Murtagh Precast were charged with design, manufacture and delivery of Piano Overbridge Renewal by Birse Rail.

Working with Steve and the Birse Rail Team an initial value engineering exercise was carried out by the Shay Murtagh Design Team and a substantial reduction in the number of prestressing strands required in the box beams was proposed. Shay Murtagh was subsequently granted detailed design responsibility for the bridge beams, deck slab, parapet upstands and  bearing schedule.  On design completion a Design Check was completed by consultants Roughan & O’Donovan wherein the reduction in prestressing strands was verified along with the full detailed design for the structural components mentioned above. Shay Murtagh Logistics Team welcomes the arrival of new truck

Logistics is a key department within the Shay Murtagh Precast framework and we have spent many years building and renewing our fleet. In December 2011 and January 2012 the latest additions arrived -Two new Scania R500LA 6×4 HHZ tractor units.

Cow Lane Underbridge

Official Launch of Edition 2 – Bridge Beam Technical Manual at Infrarail 2012

Shay Murtagh Precast in Feb 2011 launched the new Bridge Beam Technical Manual.  This document contained the latest edition of span tables for bridge beam design calculation to Eurocode standards and became an essential tool to engineers.

Shay Murtagh scoop Infrastructural Award from the Irish Concrete Society

On 30th March last the annual Irish Concrete Society Awards Evening took place in the Conrad Hotel in Dublin.  Entries ranged from private houses to motorway bridges.  The awards recognise excellence in both design and construction in concrete and Shay Murtagh Precast are delighted to receive the winning award under the Infrastructural Category. Lee Drove – W10 Civil Works Project

This structure contracted Shay Murtagh Precast by Carillion PLC, consisted of the renewal of an existing masonry arch bridge as part of the infrastructure upgrade on Southampton to Basingstoke line by Network Rail. The bridge had a clear span of 9.2m and had a clear width of 6.09m. The following items were manufactured and delivered to schedule.

W10 Civil Works – Southampton To Basingstoke

Sandhills Lane – Liverpool

Sandhills Lane in Liverpool is a project where as part of a 2011 Christmas possession Birse Rail contracted us to manufacture precast elements for the replacement of an existing steel deck bridge. Shetland U-section & Lid
