FP McCann – Irish salt mines

Shay Murtagh Precast recently manufactured and supplied U-channel and cover slab units to Irish Salt Mines Project to main contractors FP McCann Ltd.. The U-section and cover slab formed a reclaim tunnel at the Irish Salt Mines Kilroot facility in Carrickfergus. The units supplied to date complete Phase 01 of the works with over 75 linear metres delivered to site. (more…)
New Bridge Beams for Dalmarnock Station Road, Glasgow

A new bridge has been constructed over the existing Dalmarnock Station Road Bridge in Glasgow. Glasgow City Council were Project Designers with the main contractor being Carillion Civil Engineering under contract to Network Rail. This strengthening was undertaken to improve access to the Dalmarnock Road area as part of the access improvements for The Commonwealth Games which Glasgow will host in 2014. (more…)
Precast Cill, Ground and Portal Units for John Street, Glasgow

Shay Murtagh Precast recently completed the manufacture and supply of precast units for the upgrading of underbridge 046/065 at John Street, Blantyre, Glasgow. Main contractor Carillion Plc contracted us to manufacture 2 no. Cill units, 2 no. Ground units and 3 no. Portal units for the bridge structure.
The most complex element of this project involved the incorporation of an overhanging walkway (more…)
Golf Season Open

Bank Holiday Monday 6th July saw the beginning of the Summer Season of Charity Golf Classics in Shay Murtagh Precast.
Each year we are approached by local groups for the use of the Golf Course for fundraising. Groups include sports clubs, schools parents councils and charities. On Monday it was a charity event for Killucan Area Society of St Vincent de Paul. This is one of the largest voluntary charity associations in Ireland with its main aim to tackle poverty through practical assistance. With the local branch only in its first year we took no hesitation to giving them our full support with the use of the Golf Course and sponsorship of the prizes. (more…)

Organised by ADBA, the trade body for the anaerobic digestion and biogas industry, this two day event includes over 130 exhibitors, a comprehensive two day conference plus free practical workshops and seminars. Tarmore Road Bridge

Shay Murtagh recently manufactured precast elements on behalf of Carillion Construction Ltd for Tarmore Road Bridge replacement scheme funded by Network Rail and Moray Council. The original deck consisted of a concrete trough deck supported by steel girders.
The main design constraints were to limit the increase in deck construction depth to avoid the cost of embankment raising and new road construction. (more…)
NCE Publication of Shetlands Peat Store Project

The Shetlands Peat Store Project was published last week in NCE magazine. This is one of the largest retaining panel structures in the UK or Ireland. Dimensions of over 600m long, 3 sided retaining wall, 17m in height Shay Murtagh Precast worked closely with Futura Geosystems and main contractor Roadbridge to bring this project to completion within a tight timeframe.
