Late last year Shay Murtagh Precast were awarded the manufacture and supply of over 550 concrete retaining walls by Bouygues Travaux Publics.
These precast retaining walls would be required to be assembled on site as part of the escape passage on the northbound tunnel of the New Tyne Crossing project.
The northbound tunnel is the second tunnel to be constructed under the River Tyne to cater for increased traffic volumes between Howdon and Jarrow. It is presently one of the biggest transport infrastructure projects in the UK. Currently Shay Murtagh Precast are in production of these elements with expected delivery to site to commence in early March.
