Box Bridge Beams for River Lostock Bridge

Shay Murtagh Precast Bridge Beams for River LostockShay Murtagh Precast recently manufactured precast bridge beams on behalf of Birse Rail for River Lostock Bridge renewal.

The bridge assembly consisted of two internal pre-stressed box beams and two outer pre- stressed edge bridge beams incorporating 1000mm high reinforced concrete parapets. 

The internal beams were 970mm wide by 500mm deep and weighed 13.7T. The external beams had a total weight of 27.4T and had overall dimensions of 1215mm wide by 1500mm high.

Projecting u-bar reinforcement was provided along the sides of the beams to enable an in-situ shear key to be poured on site. Shay Murtagh also supplied two precast cill beams which weighed 19T and 24.5T respectively. The overall bridge structure when f

Birse Rail and Network Rail representatives visited our Raharney factory for the trail erection. The River Lostock Bridge was installed by Birse Rail utilising Balfour Beatty’s Kirow 1200 Rail Crane over weekend of 19th March. It was a very successful project which was handed back ahead of programme.ully assembled was 4.250m wide and had a clear span of approximately 8m.
