Brook Lane Bridge for J Murphy and Sons – Cheshire

Shay Murtagh Precast were contracted by J Murphy and Sons to supply precast concrete units for the Brook Lane Bridge project in Cheshire. The improvements are included in Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan to provide safer and more reliable services to the public. The replacement of the bridge will mean less future maintenance.
The upgrade programme will improve the railway infrastructure and facilitate the operation of more trains, resulting in frequent, faster, consistent service while the electrification of lines will make rail transport greener.

The products delivered to the site are as follows

  • 3 no. Cill Beams
  • 2 no. Parapets
  • 4 no. Slabs
  • 4 no. L-walls
  • 69 no. parapets

The precast units, manufactured and delivered over a period of four months and a total of fifteen loads transported to the site. Two of these required specialist transport. Prior to delivery, a trial erection took place. The finished bridge spanned a total of 18.715m. The efficiency and team-work demonstrated by everyone involved in the project resulted in Brook Lane bridge opening three days ahead of schedule. Five-year-old Newton Primary School pupil and local Harry Minnery is an avid fan of the bridge and excitedly kept tabs on the progress of the reconstruction. The budding engineer delighted to open the bridge on the 5th of May 2017.

Congratulations to all those involved and thank you to J Murphy and Sons. Watch Video Here.
