The Hardwicks Bridge Renewal project consisted of the renewal of an existing skewed bridge over a two track railway at Wick Road, West Hewish, Somerset. The bridge a single carriageway on steep embankments with Carillion Rail contracted by Network Rail to upgrade this structure with design by Tony Gee and Partners.
Shay Murtagh Precast had responsibility for the manufacture and design of the Hardwicks Bridge deck superstructure.
The new deck comprised of seven number interior S15 standard bridge beams and two number edge SE15 standard bridge beams. Supported on precast abutment cill beams. The interior S15 beams were 12.47m long and weighed 5.5t. The edge beams weighed 15.5t.
Two abutment cill beams manufactured for this project with these cill beams 7.570m long and weighing 16.1t. Shay Murtagh Precast manufactured and delivered L wall units to the east and west run of the bridge.
All were delivered by our in house team and we take this opportunity to thank Mike, Darren and Nia. All from Carillion on a successful project completion.
